Illumira Video Browser will be removed from Canvas on Jan. 25, 2021

Following up on the previous communications and announcements on the move from Illumira to Kaltura, we are excited to provide you with a very important update.

Kaltura MediaSpace is set to replace Illumira beginning with the Spring 2021 Semester after a successful pilot during  J-Term.  Through collaboration with OIT, the TLC, University Libraries, content from Illumira has been migrated to Kaltura.

What you need to know:

  • On Monday, January 25, 2021, the Illumira Video Browser will be permanently removed from Canvas.

    • Illumira content that is embedded in Canvas pages and modules will no longer function 

  • Faculty personal content from Illumira has been migrated to your ‘My Media’ in Kalura

  • Faculty may request Library owned assets by using the Streaming Media Request Form

    • These items will be placed in your course ‘Media Gallery’ by Library Staff

  • Illumira content will remain accessible by OIT staff until June 2021.

Who do I contact for help?

Please submit a helpdesk ticket, or send an email to as soon as possible.  If you need assistance or find that any of your personal videos are missing from your Kaltura ‘My Media’.  “My Media” is available in all of your Canvas Courses.

Please ensure that you’ve requested any Library owned content for Spring ‘21 using the Streaming Media Request Form, even if you have used the video in previous semesters.  This form will be required for each semester the asset is needed in a Canvas course.
