Course-Level Roles Available in Canvas

Overview

There are various roles that a user can be assigned within a Canvas course; the most common roles being Teacher and Student.  At times, it might be needed to add an additional person to your course to fulfil a defined role (i.e. an instructor wishes to add an embedded tutor within your course).  In order to maintain the appropriate level of access for these individuals, please review the list of permissions below to ensure the proper characteristics can be achieved.

Adding a User to Canvas Course

If you wish to add another user to you Canvas course section in a role other than Teacher or Student, follow these steps:

  1. Select the People link in the left-hand side navigation pane of the Canvas section
  2. Click on the + People button found in the top right-hand corner of the screen
  3. Input the email address of the user(s) you wish to add.
  4. Choose the appropriate Role they should have in the course
  5. Select the Next button to verify the users emails are address
  6. Select Add Users button on the following screen.  The new users should now be the roster
