How do I use Google 2 step verification?

Your password is a single-layer of protection for your account. You can add a second layer of protection. When you enable 2-Step Verification (also known as two-factor authentication), you add an extra layer of security to your account. You sign in with something you know (your password) and something you have (a code sent to your phone).

How does having an extra layer of security help me? By adding in an extra layer of security, you will...

  • reduce the chances of becoming a victim of a phishing scam.

  • make it harder for hackers to break into your account.
  • help keep your data safe and secure.

To break into an account with 2-Step Verification, bad guys would not only have to get your username and password, they would also have to get a hold of your phone. When using 2-step verification, just getting your password is not enough to get into your account.
